Abhyanga is a special type of Ayurvedic warm oil massage. A Sanskrit term, abhyanga means “massaging the body’s limbs” or “glowing body.” It is derived from “abhy”, meaning “into” or “glow,” and “anga” meaning “limb.”
Sesame oil is the traditional oil of choice for abhyanga. It is rich in linoleic acid and has anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Sesame oil is very nourishing and prevents the skin from getting excessively dry.
